2 hrCatalyst Arts Collaborative

Service Description

Once monthly: every 3rd Monday, 12:00pm - 2pm Free, with a suggested donation of $5 All ages! Glip-Glab is a puppet theatre group focused on creating live, spontaneous puppet shows incorporating hand-built puppets, props and scenery with video projections and live music. All the elements of the show will be constructed from cardboard, paper mache and found/recycled materials. This endeavor will require a group of artists with a diverse set of skills: sculptors, painters, writers, actors, dancers, video artists, musicians, etc. Participants will have the opportunity to perform/play-test/workshop puppets and scenes at Gleam every second Saturday. The structure of the class will be collaborative and improvisational through every step of the process and participants will be invited to play with any and all of the elements of the performance. There will also be opportunities to perform at other venues, do pop-up shows, charity events, educational shows, workshops, etc. In addition to being a fun, social exercise in creativity, the main skill this class teaches is artistic collaboration across multiple disciplines. Participants will gain experience with leadership, artistic direction, curation, improvisation and performance. Encouraging spontaneous creative play across multiple mediums strengthens all artistic expression and builds strong creative communities. All supplies will be provided! Optional items to bring with you: - Any cardboard, found objects or other materials you may want to incorporate into your puppet - Musical instruments you may have to add to the accompaniment - Water bottle with a spill-proof lid - Layered clothing Scholarships for this and all of our other classes are available for those who otherwise would not be able to attend art classes, thanks to generous donations to our Art Start Fund.
